Delhi Police Personnel Protest at Headquarters Over ACP, Inspector Transfers
Delhi Police personnel surround headquarters and stage an unprecedented protest over the transfer of an ACP and inspector in East Delhi. ACP Manasvi Vashishth raises three demands as tensions escalate.
Police Personnel Raise Slogans Inside Headquarters for the First Time
The situation escalated as the afternoon progressed, with angry police personnel staging a sit-in inside the police headquarters and raising slogans against the action. Senior officers appeared helpless as the protest continued. It was the first time that police personnel had entered the headquarters and launched such an open protest, repeatedly raising slogans in support of police unity.
As the situation intensified, an unprecedented meeting was convened in Delhi Police history, with the Police Commissioner and all Special Commissioners coming together to hear the grievances of the protesting personnel. The interaction took place at the Adarsh Auditorium inside the police headquarters, which soon became completely packed.
Police personnel continued arriving at the headquarters in plain clothes from different districts. During the meeting, several personnel openly expressed their concerns and grievances.
Media personnel were barred from entering the premises. Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and several Special Commissioners remained seated on the stage, interacting directly with the protesting personnel.
Women Police Personnel Join the Protest
Police personnel from different districts continued arriving at the headquarters, leaving senior officers struggling to understand how to handle the situation. The protesting personnel appeared unwilling to listen to their officers and showed little concern about the possibility of strict departmental action against them.
Personnel took turns expressing their anger over the issue involving lawyers. As the day progressed, tensions intensified, and a large number of women police personnel also joined the protest.
Why Is There a Revolt Within Delhi Police?
The latest protest marks the second occasion after the violence at the Tis Hazari Court complex when Delhi Police personnel have directly demonstrated outside the police headquarters to defend their rights and dignity.
Sloganeering Triggers Alarm Within the Department
Heavy security forces were deployed around the police headquarters during the protest. The demonstrators demanded intervention from senior officers and called for an end to what they described as one-sided action against police personnel.
The unexpected show of resistance and slogans raised by the personnel triggered considerable commotion within the department.
What Were ACP Manasvi Vashishth's Three Demands?
During a meeting with Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar, ACP Manasvi Vashishth put forward three demands.
The first demand was that the cases registered against lawyers should not be cancelled. The second was that the name of the Bar Council member should not be removed from the case. The third demand was that no legal action should be taken against any police personnel who participated in Monday's protest.
ACP Manasvi Vashishth said, "If the police department has to take any action, including suspension or any other strict measure, it should be taken only against me."
Police Personnel Refuse to Listen to IPS Officers
The first round of discussions ended without any conclusion, following which the police personnel walked out of the auditorium. A short while later, information emerged that a second round of talks was about to begin.
Delhi Police is generally regarded as a highly disciplined force. However, the anger among personnel over the issue has reached a point where they are unwilling to listen to anyone, including the Police Commissioner and other IPS officers.
The protest has brought internal tensions within the force into the open, with the outcome of the discussions and the demands raised by the personnel emerging as key issues in the unfolding standoff.
